Zoo Project
Port Lympne, A wild animal safari park wanted to create an engaging and educational activity box aimed at children, designed to highlight the importance of animal conservation. The goal was to combine playful design elements with informative content to ensure learning remained fun.
Combining two different illustrative styles, hand drawn and computer generated graphics, with geometric shapes and bright colours, enabled the project to appeal to a range of ages. The box featured several parts, ‘The Explorers Essential Log Book’, an activity booklet to log the animals when found, reflecting what real conservationists do in the wild. A fact file of the most endangered animals at the park including important information presented in a more engaging way than what the park had in place at the time. Stickers, an updated map and a notebook accompanied the material in order to make the box feel like a souvenir.
Conclusion
The activity box exceeded expectations, selling out within the first week of being on sale. By combining entertainment with education, the activity box effectively reinforced the zoo's ethos and educational initiatives. It succeeded in inspiring young visitors to become advocates for animal conservation, instilling in them a sense of responsibility towards protecting wildlife and their habitats.
